ABC had no comment, but the Star Search reboot could premiere as early as this summer, according to EW.

Paula Abdul: Straight up, what's next?

ABC has been courting Abdul, 47, since she departed Idol in August, with the network's entertainment president, Stephen McPherson, stating that he'd like to work with Abdul, either via a spot on Dancing with the Stars or otherwise. Abdul's former Idol cohort, Simon Cowell, has also voiced his interest in recruiting Abdul as a judge for his upcoming Fox talent series X-Factor.

The original, syndicated Star Search, hosted by Ed McMahon, aired from 1983 until 1995 and featured performances from such future stars as Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake. Arsenio Hall hosted a reboot in 2003 for CBS that lasted for two seasons.
