Nigel Lythgoe Extends an Invite and Empty Chair to Paula Abdul on Dance

Nigel Lythgoe and Paula Abdul

Paula Abdul still has a judge's chair with her name on it — on So You Think You Can Dance.

So You Think You Can Dance Top 20 finalist leaves due to illness

Keeping true to his word that he would consider having Abdul as a guest judge on Dance, Nigel Lythgoe extended an open invitation and an empty chair to Abdul to join him, Mary Murphy and Adam Shankman on the panel on Monday's "Meet the Top 20" episode.

"I've asked somebody to come along and be a guest judge whenever they can, so I've asked [the crew] to put a chair next to me just in case [Abdul] ever turns up," Lythgoe said. "It'd be lovely to see her. I'm putting the pressure on her!"

The former American Idol judge never popped up — a slight letdown after Lythgoe got viewers all riled up with a teaser of a tweet last Thursday: "All you Paula Abdul fans please check out next Monday's show."
