Nicki Minaj: "I Don't Care" If Mariah Carey's Still Upset

American Idol

Now that the premiere of American Idol is finally here, everyone's wondering how the feud between new judges Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey will play out. But during an interview with Ellen Degeneres, Minaj said she's ready to move on from the "crazy" dramatics.

Winter TV Preview: Must-see new shows

"I don't know, it was just two big ol' divas I guess," Minaj said of the video in which she cursed out Carey during an audition. "I was, like, just sitting there and I guess before I went in there, I heard all this stuff that was being said, but I didn't believe it," the rapper continued. "I heard them saying, like, 'Mariah doesn't want you on the panel.' But I was saying, 'No, I'm friends with Mariah.' I was arguing people down. Like, 'Don't believe everything you read! You're crazy.' So I went there, and I started feeling a little bit of 'the shade.' And I just kind of overcompensated by being crazier."

Of course, Minaj's plan didn't exactly work in her favor. But as she sees it, lashing out is human nature. "It's like a defense mechanism. It's really that your feelings are hurt and you can't believe it so you kind of just compensate by being crazy," Minaj said.

Returning Winter Shows: Where we left off

But now, according to Minaj, she's put her "crazy" past behind her. "We're fine. I cannot hold a grudge against Mariah Carey," Minaj told Degeneres. "I don't know if she's gotten over it but I have. I'm over there cracking up laughing and having fun. And if she's still holding a grudge, I don't know. I don't care."

Though, Minaj isn't making any promises about how she'll feel once Idol's live shows begin. "I cannot trust myself," she admits. "It's about the contestants. We've got a lot of great talent, and I don't want anyone on the panel to say something crazy because I don't wanna look like a crazy psycho again."
