Nick Cannon: I Have an Auto-Immune Disease

Nick Cannon

Nick Cannon says his recent kidney failure stemmed from an auto-immune disease that he's suffering from.

"They kind of say [my] autoimmune [disease] is — like a lupus type of thing, but no one else in my family has it," Cannon told People.

Last month, the 31-year-old was hospitalized for having blood clots in his lungs and an enlarged ventricle in his heart. Prior to that, Cannon was diagnosed with mild kidney failure.

"The blood clot thing was probably the scariest because ... I've known people who have passed away from that," he said. "I thought I was getting better and then that happened, so that kind of came out of nowhere."

Cannon, who has 10-month-old twins with wife Mariah Carey, says he's planning to take it easy and get more rest. "I'm just trying to make sure I put my health first," he added. "I feel blessed to be alive. If it wasn't discovered, I don't know [what would have happened]."
