Neil Patrick Harris hosting the Tonys
CBS, the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences and Neil Patrick Harris are working on a deal that would make the How I Met Your Mother star the host of this year's Primetime Emmy Awards, airing Sept. 20.
An agreement had not been reached as of late Wednesday — and CBS had no comment on the buzz — but Variety reports that all parties are hopeful to see Harris "tux up" and take charge of the 61st annual Emmys.

Just recently for CBS, Harris earned raves as host of the June 7 Tony Awards and helped deliver that show's biggest audience since 2006.
Also in the past year, NPH has hosted the TV Land Awards, the Writers Guild Awards ceremony in Los Angeles, the World Magic Awards and last fall's Creative Arts Emmy ceremony.

"I love the hosting thing. I've gotten to do a lot of it this year," Harris told the New York Times prior to taking the stage at the Tonys. "I'm enjoying it."
The Academy, in turn, would enjoy the chance to have a beloved face at the fore of this year's Emmys and thus put last year's telecast behind them. That show, hosted by the five Outstanding Reality Host nominees, was unanimously voted off the island by critics and viewers alike.
