Naomi Campbell's driver says he "overreacted" when he told police the supermodel assaulted him from the back seat of a SUV, The Associated Press reported.

Campbell's driver, Miodrag Mejdina, told the news agency through his lawyer that the incident was "blown out of proportion" and regretted involving the police. Mejdina also said he wished to apologize to Campbell, 39, "for causing that to happen."

According to police, Mejdina, 27, claimed Campbell hit him from behind and his head struck the steering wheel, which caused bruising under his eye.

Campbell said she is glad Mejdina apologized and hopes to put the incident in the past.

The 39-year-old supermodel has faced a series of lawsuits and criminal cases accusing her of attacking household employees and two policemen at London's Heathrow Airport.
