Is NBC Replacing Ann Curry on Today?

Ann Curry

Ann Curry may be leaving Today after only one year since she became the co-host.

According to the New York Times, NBC is planning to replace Curry, with her possibly taking on a new role at NBC. Although it's still not clear what that will be, the newspaper speculates that she could shift to a foreign correspondent's role, emphasizing her strengths for serious reporting. The move is expected to come before the network's extensive coverage of London's Summer Olympics in July.

Sources tell the newspaper that Curry has been struggling with the decision to vacate her Today post and even hired an attorney to help her with the negotiations. Her attorney, Robert Barnett, previously represented Christiane Amanpour after she exited ABC News' This Week to become a foreign correspondent for the network and an anchor on CNN.

Ratings: Good Morning America ends Today's 16-year winning streak

It's unclear who would replace Curry on Today, though the Times says Savannah Guthrie, co-host of Today's 9 a.m. hour who has filled in for Curry before, is likely in the running.

The news comes after ABC's Good Morning America unseated Today as No. 1 in the morning ratings for several weeks during the spring. According to the Times, some staffers blame Curry for the dip in viewership.

Curry, who had been the newsreader for the program since 1997, took over for Meredith Vieira, who left after five years to spend more time with her family, in June 2011.

Would you miss Curry if she left?
