NBC Renews Law & Order: SVU for 14th Season

Mariska Hargitay

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit has been renewed for a 14th season, TVGuide.com has confirmed.

Cast member Ice-T shared the news on Twitter Wednesday. "SUPER EXCLUSIVE NEWS: SVU has officially been renewed for season #14. Tell a hater," he wrote.

Fall TV scorecard: Which shows are returning? Which aren't?

Although ratings have been down this season — the show's first without Christopher Meloni  and longtime showrunner Neal Baer— a renewal was expected after Mariska Hargitay signed a new deal with Universal TV, which produces SVU, to continue on the show last month.

Showrunner Warren Leight, who introduced more personalized storytelling and newbies Danny Pino and Kelli Giddish this season, recently told TVGuide.com that he expected the show to get picked up — and that he's in it for the long haul.

"I don't want it to be a victory lap," Leight said. "I want it to be 14 years down, seven to go, as opposed to 14 years down and it's been a good run."

SVU is the third series NBC has renewed for next season, following Grimm and Smash.

Are you glad SVU's coming back?
