NBC Develops Sitcom with Saturday Night Live's Kenan Thompson

Kenan Thompson

Kenan Thompson may be ready for primetime. NBC and Lorne Michaels are developing a comedy script that would serve as a starring vehicle for the Saturday Night Live cast member.

The untitled multi-generational family comedy, which is in the script stage at NBC, would star Thompson as a man who moves in with his in-laws. Saturday Night Live writer Bryan Tucker is writing the script and would executive produce with Michaels and Andrew Singer (30 Rock). Thompson would also be an executive producer.

Thompson, who first joined Saturday Night Live in 2003, has been with the late night series for 10 seasons, tying him with Tim Meadows as the show's longest-running African American star. Before SNL, Thompson was best known as the star of Nickelodeon's All That and its spin-off, Kenan & Kel. Together with Kel Mitchell, he starred in the feature Good Burger.

Thompson's other credits include Fat Albert and Snakes on a Plane. On Saturday Night Live, he's known for performing a wide variety of impressions, such as Whoopi Goldberg and Bill Cosby. His original characters include Deandre Cole, the singing host of fictional BET talk show What Up With That
