Pax (Watson) is unlucky in love because the concept of love is nonexistent during his time, i.e. the year 3127. After discovering a romance novel during an archeological dig, Pax decides to travel back to New Orleans in search of the author Elizabeth Barrett (Rue). Upon meeting, Elizabeth introduces Pax to life in the year 2011, filled with love, music and of course, destiny.

Fred Willard and Valerie Harper co-star in the movie. Willard plays fellow future scientist Bob, who travels back in time to find Pax, and Harper plays Elizabeth's colleague in whom she confides.
