The jury in the Michael Jackson wrongful death lawsuit ruled that AEG was not liable.
In 2010, Katherine Jackson filed a wrongful death lawsuit against AEG, the promoter behind Jackson's This Is It tour. In the lawsuit, Jackson claimed that "AEG's actions and inactions led to Michael Jackson's death on June 25, 2009." The lawsuit also said that because AEG hired Dr. Conrad Murray that the company is responsible for his actions. But AEG claimed that Jackson was personally behind Murray's hiring.

After the five-month case, the jury found that AEG did, in fact hire Murray, but the doctor was deemed competent to perform the work for which he was hired, effectively ending the lawsuit.
In 2010, Murray was charged with and pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter after coroners ruled Jackson's death a homicide caused by acute propofol intoxication.
Jackson died at age 50 shortly before the scheduled start of the tour.
