How I Met Your Mother Producer: "If You're Trying to Start a Family, Come Visit Our Set"

Cobie Smulders and Alyson Hannigan

On the day the news broke that How I Met Your Mother star Cobie Smulders is expecting her first child (with actor-boyfriend Taran Killam) — and this just weeks after Alyson Hannigan announced her own premiere pregnancy — series cocreator Craig Thomas issued a statement touting the hitcom's apparently fertile workplace.

"Everyone's tremendously excited by all the impending motherhood here at How I Met Your Mother. We're all so happy for Cobie and Aly, who will undoubtedly be amazing moms!" said Thomas.  The exec producer then added, "And now, a public service announcement: If you're trying to start a family, please come visit the set of How I Met Your Mother.  Just come by and hang out for a day or two.  We can't legally guarantee anything, but by the time you leave, you will almost certainly be pregnant."

"Now, if you'll excuse me," Thomas said in closing, "I have to go down to our wardrobe department to check out the large burlap sacks Robin and Lily will inexplicably be wearing for the rest of the season."

While it's unlikely that Smulders' pregnancy will be written into the show, as of late Mother has been laying the foundation for Lily and Marshall to become parents (or at least have fun trying). That said, at the time Hannigan's news broke, series cocreator Carter Bays didn't tip his hand, only quipping, "We may have to push the 'Lily wins a gold medal in gymnastics' storyline to next season."
