Melissa Gilbert and Bruce Boxleitner have separated after 16 years of marriage, her rep tells TVGuide.com.
"We have loved each other for a very long time and we share four incredible sons together," Gilbert said in a statement. "On behalf of our family we ask to be allowed our privacy during this very difficult time."

Gilbert, 46, and Boxleitner, 60, married in 1995 and have a 15-year-old son, Michael, who is named after the actress' Little House on the Prairie co-star, Michael Landon.
Gilbert also has a 21-year-old son, Dakota, with ex-husband Bo Brinkman, and Boxleitner has two sons, Sam, 30, and Lee, 25, with ex-wife Kathryn Holcomb.
