Matt's Weekend Picks: August 27-29
THE PILLARS OF THE EARTH (Friday, 10/9c, Starz)
The epic miniseries wraps as Jack returns to Kingsbridge to finish work on the cathedral, but not without more threats and attacks from the villainous likes of Regan, William and the ever-scheming Waleran. Expect the body count to rise before all is said and built.
BLOOD DOLPHINS (Friday, 11/10c, Animal Planet)
Picking up where the Oscar-winning documentary The Cove left off, this three-part series continues activist Ric O'Barry's crusade to bring to light the slaughter of dolphins in Japan and the Solomon Islands. The Cove will have its basic-cable premiere on the channel Sunday at 9/8c.
THE 62nd PRIMETIME EMMY AWARDS (Sunday, 8/7c, NBC; live at 5 PT)
Airing live coast-to-coast for the first time in decades, the ceremony will be hosted by Late Night's Jimmy Fallon, so expect some fun parodies. Among the top battles: freshman breakouts Glee and Modern Family face off for Best Comedy, while Mad Men and Breaking Bad's Bryan Cranston each try for three-peats.
DROP DEAD DIVA (Sunday, 9/8c, Lifetime)
The second season of this delightful fantasy/comedy/legal hybrid wraps with back-to-back episodes and guest-stars including Paula Abdul (back again), the busy Jaime Ray Newman (of Eureka), Gloria Reuben and Natasha Henstridge. In the final hour, a case involving a woman seeking to be cryogenically frozen sets off a chain of events as Jane and Grayson begin to reflect on how the show started: with the untimely passing of Deb.
