Report: Matt Lauer Offered $25 Million to Stay on Today -- Is He Worth It?

The Today Show, Matt Lauer

Matt Lauer's NBC contract is up in January 2013, but what lengths will the network go to keep him on Today?

NBC is allegedly offering the host an estimated $25 million per year multi-year deal to keep him from jumping ship, Newsday reports. The deal could run for two to three years.

Could Ryan Seacrest replace Matt Lauer on Today?

If the report proves correct, it would be good news all around -- not only for fans seeking a little continuity on Today, but also NBC, who will have Lauer's reliable presence going into the Olympics.

There's been buzz that American Idol host Ryan Seacrest has been courted to join the morning show as well. And although he had preliminary talks with NBCUniversal -- the same company who oversees his E! Network projects — there doesn't appear to be any movement on a deal.

Do you want Lauer to stay with Today? Is he worth the huge payday?
