Court officials say the Bahamas lawmaker responsible for the mistrial in an extortion case involving John Travolta has been ordered to appear before the judge, according to The Associated Press.

Picewell Forbes has been summoned to explain why he announced an acquittal during a televised speech to a political party while the jury was still deliberating, court officials told the AP.
The Travolta case was declared a mistrial late Wednesday when Forbes suggested that the still-deliberating jury had acquitted former senator Pleasant Bridgewater, one of the defendants.

"He was upset as he wanted closure," Travolta's attorney, Mike Ossi, told People. "The family wants to privately begin the long and difficult healing process — as well as to properly honor Jett's memory — without the cloud of this litigation over their heads. But he said he is committed to cooperating with authorities so justice can be served."
