Andie MacDowell Spices Up Fox's Lone Star

When Andie MacDowell joins the new Fox drama Lone Star as Jon Voight's love interest, she won't be playing nice. "Surprisingly, she's a nasty con woman who's brought in to help Bob's father with his idea of going after the company fortune," creator and executive producer Kyle Killen said at Fox's PaleyFest: Fall TV Preview Party, sponsored by TV Guide Magazine, on September 13.
Lone Star, premiering September 20, centers around charming con man Bob Allen (James Wolk), who's leading a double life. In one, he is married to Cat (Friday Night Lights' Adrianne Palicki), the daughter of an oil tycoon (Voight). In the other, he's in a relationship with an unsuspecting girl next door (Eloise Mumford). Together with his scheming father, Bob is out to clean everybody's bank account but will soon find that these two worlds are hard to juggle.
Enter MacDowell. "She's so effective, because she plays sweet very well, so you'd never suspect her, but she's got a dark streak," says Killen of the actress, who he pursued for the role because of the nice characters she's played in the past. "The perfect person for that role was someone you'd never suspect in a million years would be capable of [doing] frightening things, because on the surface they appear so loveable and sweet."
And Killen is not the only one excited about MacDowell's stint on the show. "Groundhog Day is one of my favorite movies. I fell in love with her when I was 13," Wolk confesses. "I haven't worked with her, but I see her a lot on set. She's beautiful and very, very nice."
