M. Night Shyamalan Developing Event Thriller for Fox

M. Night Shyamalan

M. Night Shyamalan is developing a new event series for Fox, the network announced Tuesday at the Television Critics Association winter TV previews.

The drama, Wayward Pines, is inspired by Blake Crouch's bestselling novel Pines and follows Secret Service agent Ethan Burke as he tracks down two missing agents in a rural Idaho town. But as Ethan becomes more involved in the mysteries of Wayward Pines, Idaho, he moves farther away from everything he once knew. The Twin Peaks-esque thriller comes from a script from Chad Hodge and will be executive-produced by Shyamalan, Chad Hodge, Donald De Line and Ashwin Rajan.

In addition to Wayward Pines, Fox has signed a development deal for Blood Brothers from The Pacific's Bruce C. McKenna. Blood Brothers will tell the true story of an 1861 military class torn apart by the Civil War. Though they find themselves on opposite sides of the conflict, the former West Point classmates never lose their love for each other. McKenna will write and executive-produce the event series alongside Gary Randall and Timothy Scott Bogart.

"With top-notch auspices and feature-quality production plans, Wayward Pines and Blood Brothers represent exactly the kind of high-impact, 10- to 12-part events we set out to develop when we entered the limited series business," Kevin Reilly, Fox's entertainment chairman of, said in a statement. "These two series are the first of many big ideas, big names and big talent that you can anticipate will be on our air in the next 12-24 months."
