Love Bites won't be back for a second helping. NBC has pulled the plug on the romantic anthology series, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The series, starring Becki Newton, Greg Grunberg and Constance Zimmer, will air its final episode on Thursday at 10/9c on NBC. The network premiered the existing eight episodes this summer after picking it up more than a year ago.
NBC (finally) schedules Love Bites
Love Bites has been plagued with production snafus since it got the greenlight in May 2010. Star Newton, who was originally supposed to play a virgin on the show, became pregnant in real life, forcing NBC to push the show to midseason. Jordana Spiro, who was originally cast as the best friend of Newton's character, was forced to leave the project due to her previous obligation to the TBS comedy My Boys. My Boys was canceled soon after. Behind the scenes, showrunner Cindy Chupack (Sex and the City) stepped down from executive producer to consulting producer.
Love Bites finally premiered on June 2, to just 2.64 million viewers and a 1.0 rating in the adults ages 18-49 demographic. The series has averaged 2.2 million viewers over seven episodes.
