What's Up Doc? The Looney Tunes Show Is Back
Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck
The Looney Tunes Show comes back in a big way Tuesday — literally, as Bugs Bunny has fallen victim to Porky Pig's cooking and now weighs in at a whopping 300 pounds. Turns out Porky can believe it's not butter, and uses quite a bit of the real stuff; though viewers will hear nary a Paula Deen crack in the episode. "It's not a very reference-y show," explains producer Hugh Davidson. "The closest we get is that Daffy is a fan of [fake show] So You Think You Can Figure Skate," adds producer Larry Dorf. But Bugs' temporary ballooning — in true animated sitcom fashion, he'll be back to normal by the next episode — is just a sign of bigger things to come in the show's second season.
While you won't hear any overt references, the second episode does feature a treat for Bridesmaids fans: Wendi McClendon-Covey, who starred as Kristin Wiig's fellow bridesmaid Rita in the film, will play mama bunny to the Wiig-voiced Lola (aka Bugs' girlfriend). Not that producer Rachel Ramras expects much of the audience to appreciate the joke. "We hope parents are watching with their kids and enjoying it on a different level," says Ramras. "It definitely feels like a family show that adults and kids can enjoy."
Lola also gets a big piece of the action in this season's Christmas episode. "It's really hot in their town, and no one has the Christmas spirit," explains Ramras. "So Lola decides she's going to put on A Christmas Carol." The caveat? "She's never read it. In her version Carol is a person named Carol." Sounds just looney enough to work.
The Looney Tunes Show airs Tuesdays at 8/7c on Cartoon Network.
