Roache is joined in the cast by Geraldine Somerville (the Harry Potter films) and Toby Jones (W, Infamous). The announcement didn't specify what roles the actors would play, but the miniseries will focus on characters ranging from steerage to first-class passengers.

Each character's story will be told up until the moment of the fateful encounter with an iceberg, and the final act will show how all the characters interact as the ship goes down.
Filming is set to begin later this month in Hungary, and the miniseries is expected to debut in 2012, the 100-year anniversary of Titanic's voyage.
ABC has acquired the rights to broadcast the miniseries in the United States also next year, an ITV rep tells TVGuide.com.
