Private Practice's Amy Brenneman will return to TV in Damon Lindelof's HBO pilot The Leftovers, TVGuide.com has learned.
The project, based on Tom Perrotta's book, will follow the people who survive a Rapture-like event and must figure out how to go on without their loved ones.

Brenneman will play Laurie, a woman who has left her entire life behind to join a mysterious cult. Also cast in the project is Emily Meade, who played Olivia Dunham's (Anna Torv) niece Ella Blake on Fringe, and The Carrie Diaries' Jake Robinson. Meade will play Amy, an uninhibited high school student who seemingly takes the apocalypse in stride. Both Meade and Breeneman will be series regulars, while Robinson will guest-star as the guy we all wish we were in high school.
As previously announced, Liv Tyler, Justin Theroux and Michael Gaston will also star in the project, which will be written by Lindelof and Perrotta, and directed by Peter Berg.
