Get to Know Survivor: Redemption Island's Phillip Sheppard

Phillip Sheppard

He is The crab spear-hunter castaway on Survivor's Ometepe tribe. A self-described "Special Agent," Phillip claims he worked for the Defense Investigative Service (an agency of the U.S. Dept. of Defense), specializing in background investigations.

Why we love him Phillip is one of the most bizarrely outspoken contestants ever, and acts up regularly at camp and Tribal Council. "Phillip will go down as one of the greatest characters who's ever been on the show," says host Jeff Probst. "He lives a life that is so big and bold that I found [him] charming."

The Rob factor Phillip admits the addition of fan favorite Rob Mariano to his tribe rattled him. "He was smarter than I thought, and quick as an alley cat to pounce on any opportunity to present himself in a positive light," he says. "I knew I was in for a fight."

Gorilla versus lion Sporting dual tattoos, Phillip prides himself on living in a "primal state" by sharing the observational skills of a gorilla ("I feel a special kinship with the silverback who watches over his band") and the fierceness of a lion. "My roar [which he unleashed at Tribal Council], even though hoarse, was so profound and deliberate that it has been said no Tribal Council before had ever been like that!"

Survivor: Redemption Island airs Wednesday at 8/7c on CBS.
