ABC Nearing Deal to Pick Up Kirstie Alley Comedy Pilot

Kirstie Alley

In what would be her first network series since 2000, ABC is close to picking up a new comedy pilot starring Kirstie Alley, Deadline reports.

The Manzanis, a multi-camera comedy, is described as a new take on Roseanne and would star Alley, 60, as an opinionated wife and mother who moves her family to a repressed country-club town. The pilot was written by Marco Pennette (Ugly Betty) and Dave Flebotte (Desperate Housewives), who will executive-produce with JoAnn Alfano (30 Rock), Aaron Kaplan (G.C.B.) and Jason Weinberg.

Alley most recently appeared on ABC's Dancing with the Stars, winning second place and becoming arguably the fan favorite of the season. She won an Emmy award for her performance as Rebecca on Cheers, and later starred on the NBC comedy Veronica's Closet. Aside from her memorable commercials for Jenny Craig, Alley also starred in the Showtime comedy Fat Actress in 2005 and the A&E reality series Kirstie Alley's Big Life last year.
