The King's Speech, Boardwalk Empire Top Directors Guild Awards

The King's Speech reigned supreme at the Directors Guild Awards.

The movie's first-time director, Tom Hooper, won the honor for directing a feature film at the awards held Saturday in Los Angeles, beating out longtime auteurs including David Fincher and Christopher Nolan.

Charles Ferguson won the documentary award for the financial crisis film Inside Job.

In TV, HBO cleaned up in two categories. Martin Scorsese won best drama series director for his work on the Boardwalk Empire pilot. Temple Grandin director Mick Jackson won for best TV movie or miniseries.

Modern Family's Halloween episode grabbed the award for best comedy series directing for Michael Spiller.

The King's Speech tops Oscar nominations

The 64th Annual Tony Awards won for best musical variety, while The Next Iron Chef was victorious among reality programs.

The Boy Who Cried Wolf and One Life to Live were recognized in the children's program and daytime serials categories, respectively.
