Kid Rock Goes Country
When Kid Rock broke through in 1998 with his rap-rock masterpiece Devil Without a Cause, few would have imagined the hard-partying son of Detroit would one day be embraced by a country-music audience — let alone host the CMT Music Awards, which honors the best in country music videos. But that's what he's doing Wednesday at 8/7c.
TV Guide Magazine: What's your hosting game plan?
Kid Rock: I don't really know how to do anything else! Just be myself.
TV Guide Magazine: We don't see you doing a monologue in a top hat and tails...
Kid Rock: I don't think I'm going to be doing a one-two song and dance: [Sings] "Hello, my baby, hello, my honey..." But we'll put together a cool performance, something off the cuff, where I can shine.
TV Guide Magazine: The Zac Brown Band is nominated for their "Toes" video, in which you appear. Are you pulling for Zac?
Kid Rock: That's what's great about hosting — even if they don't win, I'll just keep the award and give it to them! They are one of the greatest bands to come along in country in a long time.
TV Guide Magazine: So can we assume the seven-second tape delay will be in effect tonight?
Kid Rock: I think they're going to up it to 10!
