Mark Kerrigan

Nancy Kerrigan's brother was charged with manslaughter in their father's death, according to The Associated Press.

Daniel Kerrigan, 70, died Jan. 24 following a fight in which Mark Kerrigan, 45, allegedly grabbed his father by the neck. The coroner ruled the death a homicide. An autopsy showed Daniel died from a heart rhythm problem after his windpipe was damaged from a physical altercation.

"This defendant should have known that the cruel acts that he committed against his elderly father, including grabbing him by the neck with enough force to cause a fracture, were highly likely to result in substantial harm and endanger his father's life," District Attorney Gerry Leone said.

The Kerrigan family is "deeply disappointed" with the ruling, Tracy Miner, the Kerrigan family's lawyer, said in a statement. "We disagree with the decision to indict and look forward to the facts being considered by an impartial jury."

"The Kerrigan family continues to believe that he is not responsible for the death of their beloved Daniel Kerrigan," Miner continued. "Mark Kerrigan has been living at home supporting and caring for his mother and is in complete compliance with all conditions of his pre-trial release and we see no reason that the situation should change."

Nancy Kerrigan, a two-time Olympic medal figure-skating winner, has called the homicide ruling "unjustified" and said she and her family plan to "help my brother fight."

Mark Kerrigan is scheduled to be arraigned Friday.
