Director Kathryn Bigelow's highly anticipated follow-up to her 2009 Oscar-winning military drama The Hurt Locker is set to hit theaters Oct. 12, 2012.

The as-yet-untitled picture will find Bigelow on similar terrain — it will chronicle Navy Seal Team 6 hunting down Osama bin Laden. Bigelow and writer Mark Boal had already been working on this film at the time of bin Laden's death in May. That changed the direction of their script and made this already hot ticket hotter.

The film's release date certainly puts its smack-dab in the beginning of the Oscar-bait season — and shortly before next year's presidential election. Bigelow's film is set to begin filming late this summer.
