Kate Winslet

Kate Winslet is a double Golden Globe winner and Oscar nominee, but she's thinking about actors who aren't sweeping awards ceremonies.

"I really hope that there isn't a [Screen Actors Guild] strike," the actress, nominated for a best actress Oscar for her role in The Reader, said Monday at a luncheon for nominees.

"When I think about my upbringing, and I think about my father who relied on voiceovers  ... or a jingle ... he relied on those things to pay the rent and put food on the table for his four children," she recalled. "For those people, I dearly, deeply hope that there isn't a strike."

SAG was on the verge of a strike authorization for several weeks, until the removal of executive director and chief negotiator Doug Allen. The union is seeking more residuals from online streaming and DVD sales, among other concessions from producers.

New SAG executive director David White is expected to resume talks with producers Tuesday.
