Kate Beckinsale has signed in to star in the drama The Face of an Angel, which is based on a story similar to that of Amanda Knox, Deadline reports.
Based on the book Angel Face by Barbie Latza Nadeua, the film follows a woman suspected of a murder, a journalist pursuing the case and a documentary filmmaker also trying to find the truth. In the film, which will begin production in Tuscany, Italy, Beckinsale will play the journalist, Rush's Daniel Bruhl will play the filmmaker and English fashion model Cara Delevingne will play the young woman on trial. Michael Winterbottom (The Killer Inside Me) is set to direct.

The announcement comes just as Knox and her ex-boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito, are being re-tried in Italy for the murder of Knox's old roommate, Meredith Kercher, who was found murdered in the apartment they shared back in November 2007. Knox, who spent four years in jail before her conviction was overturned, opted not to return to Italy for the retrial.
This is the second project bearing a striking similarity to the famous case. In 2011, Hayden Panettiere played Knox in a Lifetime movie called Amanda Knox: Murder on Trial in Italy.
Beckinsale most recently starred in the 2012 remake of Total Recall.
