Kanye West has been named MTV's Man of the Year.

The rapper won the honor for his "compelling" comeback story after starting the year as a villain, thanks to his infamous mic-swipe from Taylor Swift, and ending it as a "hero."

After a self-imposed hiatus, West started his comeback in May, releasing "Power." Two months later, he joined Twitter, unleashing infinitely entertaining stream of consciousness in 140-character bursts.

By the fall, he wowed fans with visually stunning performances on the Video Music Awards and Saturday Night Live; directed a short film, Runaway; released his album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy; made amends with George W. Bush; and got into a tiff with the Today show and Matt Lauer.
