Joss Whedon Takes On Glee

Joss Whedon will direct an episode of Glee, TVGuide.com has confirmed.

The wunderkind, who created Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Firefly and Dollhouse, earned his musical stripes with a singing-and-dancing episode of Buffy titled "Once More, With Feeling" and the Emmy-winning Internet musical sensation Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog.

Glee cast to perform at World Series

Whedon posted a message on the Whedonesque fan site confirming the news. "I will have the privilege of shooting an episode of Glee. Why Glee? Because I love cops, serial killers and gritty urban drama (I haven't seen the show yet)," he joked.

Don't expect demons and robo-babes to flood the halls of McKinley High in Whedon's episode of Glee. "A television director's job is, on some level, to be anonymous," the 45-year-old director said in his posting, "to find the most compelling way to present a story without calling attention to himself." Whedon has previously directed two episodes of NBC's The Office.

He also said that his Glee gig would not interfere with his Dollhouse duties, and should not be interpreted as any kind of sign about Dollhouse's future. "No, this doesn't mean Dollhouse definitely won't get a back nine [episode order]. Our numbers mean that! But I kid."

The news was first reported by Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello. Whedon's episode of Glee will air in the spring.
