John Kerr of South Pacific, Tea & Sympathy Dead at 81

John Kerr

Stage and screen actor John Kerr, well-known for his roles in South Pacific and the Broadway production of Tea and Sympathy, has died, according to The Associated Press. He was 81.

Kerr died Saturday, Feb. 2 of heart failure at Huntington Hospital in Pasadena, Calif.

Kerr, who won a Tony in 1954 for his role in Tea, was also a presence in television, with guest-starring roles on The Alfred Hitchcock Hour, Peyton Place and The Streets of San Francisco. His other film credits include The Pit and the Pendulum.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Chu, two stepchildren as well as two daughters and a son from his first marriage.
