Jesse Williams Promoted to Series Regular on Grey's Anatomy

Jesse Williams has been upgraded to a series regular on Grey's Anatomy, a show rep tells TVGuide.com.
The actor, who plays Dr. Jackson Avery, joined the ABC hit in October during the Seattle Grace-Mercy West Hospital merger story line as one of four new residents. Fellow newbie Sarah Drew (Dr. April Kepner) is currently in negotiations to return next season, according to Entertainment Weekly, which first reported Williams' promotion.
