Jersey Shore Cast Has Trouble Trademarking Their Names

The cast of Jersey Shore may have coined a few catchy phrases on the show, but don't count on them getting their own trademarks any time soon.
According to The Washington Post, U.S. Patent and Trademark records show that cast members have had a tough time securing their signature nicknames.
The Situation cashes in for a Bentley
Pauly "DJ Pauly D" Delvecchio was unsuccessful in trademarking his DJ company because of the similarly named DJ Paulie. Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi has also had trouble securing her nickname because of a 2003 book titled Adventures of Snooky: Under the Sea.
Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino has actually had the best luck of the group. Though he couldn't trademark "The Situation," since it's already the name of a clothing store, he had better luck with the term "Situation Nation."
Sorrentino has also applied to trademark the terms "fresh to death," (meaning "dressed to the nines"), "grenade-free America" (in the show's parlance, a "grenade" is an ugly girl a friend throws himself on) and "GTL" — gym, tan, laundry.
