Jay Leno Pokes Fun at Losing Emmy Nominations to Conan O'Brien

Jay Leno, Conan O'Brien

He may have gotten snubbed in favor of his failed successor Conan O'Brien, but Jay Leno still managed to poke fun at his Emmy shutout on The Tonight Show Thursday.

"The big show business news is that the Emmy nominations were announced today," Leno joked during his monologue. "The good news: The Tonight Show got four nominations! The bad news: I didn't get one of them."

Nominees react to getting Emmy nods

After dropping O'Brien for Leno earlier this year, NBC decided to submit only The Tonight Show with Jay Leno for Emmy consideration. However, after submitting his own work, and with a little Emmy love from his new bosses at TBS, Conan O'Brien and his Tonight Show team snagged four nominations including best variety, music or comedy series.

"That's always been my motto," Leno said before welcoming Emmy nominees Jane Lynch and Steve Carell. "Remember there's no 'me' in Emmy."

Although this means Leno won't be heading to the big ceremony on Aug. 29, he's already come up with an interesting alternative since competitor David Letterman also failed to pick up nominations Thursday.

"I guess Letterman and I will be watching the Emmy's at Oprah's house this year," Leno said, referring to his and Letterman's wildly popular Super Bowl commercial with Winfrey this past February. "Sit there eating corn chips and watch the show."
