The couple and her sister, Lauren Bessette, were killed in a plane crash — Kennedy was the pilot — near Martha's Vineyard on July 16, 1999.

Rather will examine the crash and the media frenzy that followed. Also interviewed in the one-hour special are Brown professor John Emigh, who directed Kennedy in a play, and journalist Helen Thomas, who covered the White House in the Camelot years.
