Hurricane Sandy Prompts Late-Night Cancellations, CBS and CW Repeats

Several New York-based late-night shows canceled their Monday tapings as the East Coast braced for Hurricane Sandy.

The Daily Show and Colbert Report, both of which film in front of a live audience, axed their Monday programs, according to Deadline, as did Jimmy Kimmel Live, which was to air its first of five shows from Brooklyn on Monday. "Though it pains us to do it, JKL from #Brooklyn tonight is canceled," Kimmel wrote on Twitter. "I'm disappointed too, but we want you to be safe."

The Late Show with David Letterman and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon both taped shows on Monday, but sans studio audiences.

Because of the storm, The CW will air repeats of its Monday programming 90210 (sorry, Ryan Lochte fans!) and Gossip Girl. CBS will also air repeats of its two-hour comedy block and pre-empt a Halloween-themed episode of Hawaii Five-0 with a special on Hurricane Sandy.

On Tuesday, NBC will pre-empt new episodes of comedies Go On and The New Normal, which were already slated to air an hour past their normal timeslots to air continued coverage of the storm.

In addition to non-scripted fare, production was shut down Monday on more than 15 prime-time shows which shoot in and around the New York area, including 30 Rock, 666 Park Avenue, Blue Bloods, Elementary, Law & Order: SVU, Person of Interest, Smash and The Good Wife.
