Dennis Hopper's Wife Agrees to Stay Away From Actor

Dennis Hopper's wife has agreed to stay away from the actor and not contact him directly as their divorce proceedings continue, according to court records obtained by The Associated Press.
Hopper, who's being treated for prostate cancer, had requested a restraining order against his wife, Victoria Duffy, claiming she had engaged in "outrageous conduct" in the last year, according to the petition obtained by the AP. The request was also accompanied by a doctor's statement that the actor needed to eliminate unnecessary stress for his cancer treatment.

Hopper's lawyer, Douglas Bagby, wrote in a court filing that Duffy's actions subjected Hopper "to emotional distress which has threatened his ability to survive."
A judge approved the agreement following a Thursday hearing, granting Hopper daily visits with the couple's 6-year-old daughter, Galen, the AP reported. Hopper filed for divorce Jan. 14 citing irreconcilable differences and his wife is seeking full custody of their daughter.

Duffy, 42, claimed in earlier court papers that her husband's illness had rendered him unable to make sound decisions and alleged he had threatened her and smoked marijuana around their daughter.
The 73-year-old actor acknowledged smoking medical marijuana, but not around the child, and denied threatening his wife, according to the court papers.

He also expressed confidence about his recovery: "My doctors and I are hopeful that this treatment will be successful so that I may soon resume the full enjoyment of my life and work."
The couple's next court hearing, regarding visitation rights and the court order, is scheduled for March 9.
Hopper's rep could not immediately be reached for comment.
