Peter Jackson

Peter Jackson's pair of films based on J.R.R. Tolkein's Lord of the Rings prequel, The Hobbit, now have their official titles and release dates, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Stephen Fry lands Hobbit role

The first film, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, is set to hit theaters Dec. 14, 2012. The second installment, being filmed back-to-back with the first, will arrive one year later: The Hobbit: There and Back Again is due out Dec. 13, 2013.

The film will find many key players reprising their roles from Jackson's previous Lords trilogy. Ian McKellen, Cate Blanchett, Orlando Bloom, Christopher Lee, Hugo Weaving, Elijah Wood and Andy Serkis are all expected to return in some capacity.

Elijah Wood's Hobbit return is "very, very small"

Ian Holm will again play Bilbo Baggins, who's central to this story. He'll handle Bilbo's elder years; Martin Freeman has signed on to play the younger Bilbo.
