Prosecutors will not charge Heather Locklear in a hit-and-run case, saying they don't have sufficient evidence that she was the one behind the wheel of her car when it hit a no-parking sign.

Locklear was arrested and cited with a misdemeanor hit-and-run last month after the accident on a public street in California's Ventura County. The car's driver left the scene without notifying authorities.

"Insufficient evidence exists to establish who the driver of the vehicle was at the time of the collision," Ventura District Attorney Gregory D. Totten said in a statement. "As a result, no criminal charges will be filed."

Calls to Locklear's attorney, Blair Berk, were not immediately returned. Berk previously said that it was unclear who was driving the former Melrose Place star's car.

Locklear is serving a three-year probation term after pleading no contest to reckless driving following a 2008 DUI charge.
