For those who believe Animal Planet's Puppy Bowl has gone to the dogs, Hallmark Channel is here to help. The network announced Friday that it will air a Kitten Bowl on Super Bowl Sunday in 2014, Entertainment Weekly reports.
Aww! Check out celebs with their pets
The three-hour special is being hailed as "the greatest feline showdown in cable television history." An array of shelter cats up for adoption will compete in an obstacle course featuring "hurdles of varying heights, A-frame Alpine Scratchers, tunnels, hoop jumps, and weave poles." But even if a cat isn't the most skilled on the field, he or she still stands a chance of becoming the game's MVP. "Any form of cuteness is the key to the game," the network added.
Animal Planet's Puppy Bowl, which features a Kitty Halftime Show, has become a popular staple of alternative Super Bowl programing. The network released a statement in response to the Kitten Bowl reading: "You've GOT to be kitten me! With the record-breaking success of Animal Planet's Puppy Bowl, our famous Kitty Half-Time Show and the huge viewership for our new live Kitten Cam, we're not surprised by a 'copy cat.' After all, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. We're just happy that pet adoption is being promoted and more animals are finding their fur-ever homes."
