Live in Hollywood: The 2010 Golden Globes

Golden Globe Awards

No more spoiler alerts needed: The Golden Globe Awards will air live on the West Coast for the first time next year.

The ceremony has traditionally been time-delayed on the West Coast so it could air in prime time. But in a world where "news is disseminated with increasing rapidity," the Hollywood Foreign Press Association believed it would be best to go live nationwide, president Jorge Camara said.

The ceremony has experienced a ratings slump in recent years — not to mention a cancellation in 2008 due to the writers' strike — and producers are hoping the new format will draw in more viewers, according to Variety.

"Why go through the Internet?" said Orly Adelson, president of Dick Clark Productions. "You don't have to watch the pre-show somewhere else. You can come to NBC to watch it."

The 2010 telecast will air Jan. 17 at 8 pm/ET on NBC. Nominations will be announced Dec. 15.
