10 Glee Spoilers: Sue's League of Doom, Mercedes' Man and Paying Tribute to Fleetwood Mac
Jane Lynch, Chris Colfer, Amber Riley
Glee fans already know the final six episodes of the season will focus on New Directions preparing for Nationals. Vocal Adrenaline will be there — and so will the near-forgotten Sunshine Corazon (Charice) and Coach Dustin (Cheyenne Jackson). As for the rest of the action, the cast and series creators Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan revealed quite a few surprises during Wednesday's PaleyFest event:
Exclusive: Go behind the scenes of Glee's Regionals
Prepare yourselves for Sue's League of Doom. To take down New Directions prior to Nationals, Sue's calling for reinforcements. Says Jane Lynch: "What I love about our show is that I call these adults to school, at midnight, and they come! I tell them — I don't even invite them, I tell them — that they are in the League of Doom." Who are they exactly? New Vocal Adrenaline coach Dustin, Will's ex Terri (Jessalyn Gilsig) and former McKinley High glee club director Sandy (Stephen Tobolowsky). Ruh-oh!
April Rhodes returns — and she's still drunk! Oh yes, Kristen Chenoweth will re-emerge before the season ends. Brennan, who you can thank for "Hell to the No," "Big Ass Heart" and "Trouty Mouth," is writing an original tune for April, too. It's called "It's 10 am and I'm Drunk." (Fun fact: Falchuk wrote Rachel's "Only Child" and "My Headband.") How will her character come back? Murphy says that her all-white production of The Wiz flopped and she'll be after Will in hopes of mounting a new production called... Crossroads. Or is that CrossRhodes?
First listen: Mercedes gets sassy in "Hell to the No"
Murphy refers to Chenoweth and Gwyneth Paltrow as his muses. That means you can count on both April and Holly Holiday recurring for many seasons to come.
Glee will next pay homage to the Fleetwood Mac album Rumours. This will be different from the Madonna and Britney Spears tributes, which covered songs from a range of their albums. Fleetwood Mac might not also necessarily be the subject of the episode, but Murphy says they'll do an episode built around the album's songs, which include such classics as "Don't Stop," "Dreams" and "Go Your Own Way."
Mercedes will get a man... next season. Remember that reality show, The Glee Project? It's a series aimed at casting a guest-role — or two — on Glee next season. Murphy says the talent he's seen is incredible and that while he's been watching he auditions, he's been thinking, "How will that guy be with Amber?" The show will air this summer on Oxygen.
Glee's Dalton Academy Warblers to release album in April
The "Born This Way" episode is so on. Murphy says it will mark the return of Karofsky and the bullying storyline. Max Adler, who plays Kurt's tormentor, has said he's hoping he gets to sing the Lady Gaga number, but so far, no one's confirming anything.
Also so on: A McKinley High Prom. It's been Murphy's sincere wish since last year to see Kurt get to prom. "I think he should have a boyfriend and they should be prom king and king," he said last July. "I think that's an important thing to put out in the world. I want to see what that relationship is like. I want to see what [Kurt's dad] thinks of that relationship." Thanks to his big smooch with Blaine (Darren Criss), it looks like it will now happen. The big question is, will Kurt be able to beat out Quinn (Dianna Agron) and Finn (Cory Monteith) for prom royalty?
Glee bosses Murphy and Falchuk sell drama pilot to FX
At long last, Kurt Hummel will ditch the Warblers. OK, so that's not exactly a huge surprise — especially since Kurt needs a prom date, right? — but Chris Colfer did let it slip that he was so "happy to be back" with the old gang. Fans who have been clamoring for it to happen should know he'll be back very, very soon. Expect Kurt's return in the next episode, "Night of Neglect," airing April 19. (It coincides with the return of Charice!)
That said, Blaine will probably have to audition for New Directions. Eventually. "In Season 3," Murphy teases. And don't count the Warblers out. In addition to their upcoming album release, Murphy says they're not gone entirely from the show just yet.
Check out today's news
Will Puck (Mark Salling) and Quinn's baby reemerge? Probably not. "She's living happily with [Rachel's mom] Shelby (Idina Menzel)," Falchuk says. And now you know. Also, this show has got a cast of what, 20? Do we really need the baby back?
Bonus non-spoiler: Murphy and the cast love Rebecca Black's "Friday." Just like you do!
Second bonus non-spoiler: Brennan would very much like Santitney to happen. Try it out some time. Use it instead of Brittana.
Third bonus non-spoiler: The vomit that Brittany expelled in "Blame It on the Alcohol" was like a milkshake. But a milkshake that tasted like chalk, says Heather Morris.
Glee returns with an all-new episode Tuesday, April 19 at 8/7c on Fox.
