Glee has cast Phoebe Strole, who worked alongside Glee's Lea Michele and Jonathan Groff on Broadway's Spring Awakening, for a recurring role.
Returning fall shows: Where we left off
According to Deadline.com, Strole will play Penny Owen, a college sophomore and nursing school-hopeful who becomes a new love interest for Sam (Chord Overstreet).
Sam most recently dated Brittany (Heather Morris), the ex-girlfriend of Sam' ex-girlfriend, Santana (Naya Rivera), before she dumped Sam to graduate early and start her work at MIT.
Demi Lovato books multi-episode arc on Glee
Michele first broke Strole's casting on Thursday. "Such amazing news that two of my very best friends are going to be on #Glee this year! [Demi Lovato] & [Phoebe Strole]," she tweeted. Strole's other credits include Hamlet 2 and Descent.
Filming has been moving forward on Glee despite the death of star Cory Monteith in July. Earlier this week, Jane Lynch called his planned tribute episode "the most beautiful thing" and on Friday, Michele shared a picture of herself wearing a "Finn" nameplate necklace.
Glee returns on Thursday, Sept. 26 at 9/8c on Fox. Are you excited to meet Trouty Mouth's new girl?
