Aflac Fires Gilbert Gottfried After Japan Tweets

Comedian Gilbert Gottfried was fired from his job as the voice of Aflac duck after he posted a series of Twitter jokes about the devastating earthquake in Japan, Reuters reports.

Gottfried, who started his Aflac gig in 2000, tweeted tasteless jokes — which have since been removed from his feed — following last Friday's earthquake and subsequent tsunami.

"Gilbert's recent comments about the crisis in Japan were lacking in humor and certainly do not represent the thoughts and feelings of anyone at Aflac," the company said in a statement.

Aflac plans to start a nationwide casting call to replace the 56-year-old comedian.
