"George is completely over the malaria he contracted while in the Sudan during the first week in January," his rep said in a statement. "This was his second bout with it. This illustrates how with proper medication, the most lethal condition in Africa, can be reduced to a bad 10 days instead of a death sentence."

Malaria, which is spread by the bites of infected mosquitoes, kills approximately 1 million people each year, most of them young children in Africa, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

News of the actor's illness broke Thursday after Piers Morgan tweeted that Clooney, who will appear on Friday's episode of Piers Morgan Tonight, was still battling the illness. "It's his 2nd bout of malaria. Taking medication but feeling rough," Morgan wrote.

"I guess the mosquito in Juba looked at me and thought I was the bar," he joked in a clip.
