Gemma Whelan Joins Game of Thrones
Game of Thrones has cast its Asha — but she won't be called that.
Gemma Whelan (Gulliver's Travels) will play Theon Greyjoy's Ironborn warrior sister, who will now be called Yara Greyjoy, a show rep confirms.
Liam Cunningham signs on for Game of Thrones
According to Entertainment Weekly, which first reported the news, the name change was made so viewers could avoid confusion with another character, the similar-sounding Osha — though we're pretty sure it's not that hard to make the distinction.
Whelan is the latest to join an ever-growing guest cast for Season 2. Two weeks ago, Liam Cunningham signed on to play Davos Seaworth, along with Stephen Dillane as Stannis and Carice van Houten as Melisandre. Earlier, Gwendoline Christie was cast as Brienne, while another premium cable alum, Natalie Dormer (The Tudors), will play Margaery Tyrell.
