Is The Game On Without Its Stars? Actors' Contracts Are Up

The Game

The Game has an extra hurdle to clear should the currently defunct CW series find new life on BET: All of the actors will need to be re-signed.

"Their options are up. They would have to be re-negotiated if the deal works out," a source tells TVGuide.com.

It may not be that difficult: Star Tia Mowry told TVGuide.com last month that "the cast, we want the show to live on."

Unfortunately for the cast and fans alike, nothing's set in stone yet. As previously reported, BET has been trying to obtain rights from CBS TV Studios for a fourth season since the comedy's May cancellation. The parties are still in talks, the source adds. "There's nothing new. Right now, it's very preliminary talks."

The CW axed the 30-minute sitcom as part of a lineup overhaul to focus on one-hour shows. In a last-ditch effort, series creator Mara Brock Akil revamped The Game into a one-hour dramedy, but the CW didn't bite. Should The Game wind up on BET — where it already airs in syndication — the show will remain a half-hour comedy.

"The show does well on BET," the source says. "Everyone's hopeful."
