The dark comedy stars Laura Linney as a Cathy, a teacher and suburban mother who attempts to rebuild her life after a terminal cancer diagnosis. Sidibe, 26, who guest-starred in the pilot, will play a smart-aleck student in Cathy's class.

The Big C, which has been picked up for 13 episodes, is slated for a late summer premiere.
